Approaching Fall Perch

Cold fronts are on the horizon, and that means one thing here on Lake St. Clair — FALL PERCH!!

As we start seeing those cooler nights and cold fronts roll through, water temperatures will begin dropping. That change is exactly what we’ve been waiting for. The perch will start making their move, feeding heavier and becoming more predictable as we head deeper into fall.

Lake St. Clair is known for its incredible multi-species fishing, but there’s something special about chasing big yellow perch in the fall. Once the water starts cooling, the fish can really turn on, and the action can go from slow to lights-out in a hurry. Early fall can be a great time to take kids!

Cooling water gets the perch feeding aggressively as they prepare for the colder months ahead. Weed die off also becomes prominent as the temp drops. Schools begin grouping up, and when you find them, it can mean steady action and some great fish hitting the cooler.

Right now, we’re watching the weather and water temperatures closely. Every cold front brings us one step closer. Once those temperatures start falling consistently, we’re expecting the perch fishing to really start taking off!

Dust off your rods and straighten out your tackle! It’ll be here before you know it!
